To save $10 million, Tribune decided to offer its thousands employees just one health care plan, through a company called United Healthcare. It's a big provider, one of the biggest in the land. But it's also a PPO, and many Sun Guild members have been using an HMO for years, to save money.
This new change will likely have financial implications for employees. To what extent? We don't know, as the company has not yet given us premium costs that we can expect to pay.
However, The Sun's HR staff was very diligent and responsive in turning around a number of answers to questions that the Guild pitched to them this week.
